Education and Child Development:

CHESS TUTORS:
www.chesstutors.org
As a division of People Making Progress, Inc., Chess Tutors is solely devoted to students’ development of life skills and academic success. Our instructors are affiliated with the United States Chess Federation and have been trained to make learning fun.

Chess Tutors has consistently trained and mobilized its corps of volunteers to successfully educate children. We use chess as a vehicle to capture students’ interest in learning. Our aim is to use our curriculum to give students in the K-8th grades confidence that they can learn and apply the basic strategies and techniques we teach them through the game of chess.

They can apply the learned concentration methods to master the principles needed to be excellent in solving mathematic equations, grasping English concepts, understand science theories and solve life problems. Chess Tutors is more than a teaching tool, it is the instruction and application of life skills.

TEST TUTORS:
The Test Tutors Program, established in the Los Angeles area school systems, serves at-risk youth; helping them achieve academic success through tutoring as well as societal success through mentoring in areas such as self-esteem, self-control, self-discipline and teamwork.
The aim of this program is to empower children to lead productive lives in their communities through education, caring volunteers, and a nurturing environment. Test Tutors is an outgrowth of two highly successful school programs: Chess Tutors and LearnStar. Test Tutors is a certified Supplemental Services Provider in the state of California.

EDUCATORS PLUS:
As a division of People Making Progress, Educators Plus is a non-profit organization solely devoted to the students’ development of life skills and academic success. Students learn under a team of Supplemental Educators who have been trained to make learning fun.

We received the California Certified Supplemental Educational Service Provider designation in the summer of 2004. This enables us to offer English/Language Arts and Math tutoring free of charge to students that qualify and allows them to attend a Program Improvement School anywhere in California.

Our aim is to "Motivate Minds and Improve Performance" as we give students in K-8 great confidence to learn and apply the basic strategies/techniques we teach them through several different mediums. For 30 hours of tutoring we use curriculum that is tailored to meet the student’s individual needs. By creating a Student Learning Plan we are able to focus on 4 different areas of improvement.

To design curriculum appropriate in content and cognitive level we use LearnStar Technology standards used by numerous national organizations, such as: National Assessment of Education Progress, National Council for the Social Studies, National Council of Teachers of English, and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. We also use SkillsTutor Technology, which provides us with comprehensive accountability reports to make sure all students are achieving academic proficiency.

We provide tutoring in the location that best suits the family.  One on One at our very own Educators Plus Center located at 4560 Slauson Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90043.
